Research

Below is information on current research that the UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center is conducting:

Title: Electrophysiological Effects of Neural Remodeling of the Ventricles

Study Aim: To examine the heart's electrical behavior as it relates to the origin of fast and dangerous heartbeats and arrhythmias in the ventricles.
Principal Investigator: Kalyanam Shivkumar, M.D,. Ph.D
Co-Investigators: Aman Mahajan, M.D., Ph.D;  Isaac Wiener, M.D.;  Marmar Vaseghi, M.D.;  Shelly Cote, RN, NP

Title: TTOP Tailored Treatment of Permanent Atrial Fibrillation

Study Aim: To improve the safety and results of  ablation for atrial fibrillation.
Principal Investigator: Kalyanam Shivkumar, M.D., Ph.D
Co-Investigators: Noel Boyle, M.D., Ph.D;  Osamu Fujimura, M.D.

Title: RISK-Stratification Using a Combination of Cardiac Troponin T and Brain Natriuretic Peptide in Patients Receiving CRT-D

Study Aim: To evaluate if measuring BNP, cTNT and proteomic correctly predicts which patients will have worsening heart failure.
Principal Investigator: Noel Boyle, M.D., Ph.D
Co-investigator: Kalyanam Shivkumar, M.D., Ph.D

Title: DETERMINE-Defibrillators to Reduce Risk by Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evaluation

Study Aim: To determine if an ICD will improve survival in patients with coronary artery disease using cardiac MRI to evaluate scar mass.
Principal Investigator: Noel Boyle, M.D., Ph.D
Co-Investigators: Kalyanam Shivkumar, M.D., Ph.D;  Osamu Fujimura, M.D.

Title: Basket Catheter Mapping of Atrioventricular-Nodal Reentry Tachycardia and of the Coronary Sinus

Study Aim: To further characterize AV nodal tissue using a specialized catheter.
Principal Investigator: Noel Boyle, M.D., Ph.D
