The UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center

About UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia CenterMission:

As a unit of UCLA Hospital System and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, the UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center is a leading tertiary-care Center, committed to the field of arrhythmias and cardiac electrophysiology.  The UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center is dedicated to utilizing state-of-the-art medical technologies with compassionate care to address the needs of arrhythmia patients.  As a center within an academic institution, The UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center strives to provide excellence in patient care, generate new knowledge and discoveries through research and provide education to medical students, medical professionals and future leaders in the field of cardiac arrhythmias.  The center brings together a group of individuals who focus on shaping the future of cardiac electrophysiology to leave a lasting impact on the practice of this specialty.

About us:

Cardiac electrophysiology has expanded tremendously and interfaces with almost every area of cardiology.  We work in collaboration with the Ahmanson UCLA Cardiomyopathy Center (the largest congestive heart failure (CHF) program in the western U.S.), cardiac surgery and adult congenital heart disease programs of UCLA to offer the best care to our patients.

In addition to our emphasis on the highest quality of patient care, the center is a major resource for training and research for house officers, cardiologists and visiting cardiologists from the United States and abroad.  An advanced fellowship is offered for cardiologists with a career interest in cardiac electrophysiology.

Our center has state-of-the art electrophysiology (EP) labs for complex ablation work and specialized labs for implanting devices. We routinely utilize electroanatomic mapping systems and techniques such as intra-cardiac echocardiography for guiding procedures. Invasive hemodynamic monitoring and support (using intra-aortic balloon pumps and cardiopulmonary bypass) is also utilized for complex ablation procedures. In addition, we offer intra-operative ablations in the cardiac ORs, where we are pioneering robotic and minimally invasive approaches to non-pharmacological management of arrhythmias. Lead extractions are also performed by our center.
